About Our Pearls: Tahitian Pearls | South Sea Pearls

At TahitianPearls.Biz, we sell only pearls that are completely natural in color. Our Tahitian pearls (also called "black pearls" or Tahitian black pearls), our Golden South Sea pearls and our White South Sea pearls are just as they were made by nature - they have not been dyed or color enhanced in any way - period! This is our guarantee to our customers.

Tahitian Pearls
The Remarkable Variety of Tahitian Pearl Colors
We know that our Tahitian pearls are authentic because we buy them directly from pearl farmer cooperatives in Tahiti and have them individually inspected by the Tahitian government's Society of Pearliculture to guarantee high-quality and AAA nacre thickness.

Pearl Necklace Collection

We provide a Certificate of Authenticity with each piece of jewelry that we sell, guaranteeing that each pearl we sell is indeed of natural color and export quality.

Find out more about our Tahitian pearls here. We guarantee that all of our Tahitian pearls were grown in the warm lagoons of French Polynesia (Tahiti). We do not sell black-market pearls (Tahitian pearls not inspected by the Tahitian government), or pearls from the Cook Islands that are also uninspected.

Beware of Tahitian pearls which have not been inspected and certified by the Government of French Polynesia.  They may have thin nacre, which may wear or chip off after only a short while.  All of our pearls have passed rigorous quality controls, having been x-rayed by the government of French Polynesia to verify they had a minimum nacre thickness of 0.8mm - equivalent to a AAA Akoya pearl - so you can be sure their beauty will last a very long time!
Golden South Sea Pearls
We know that our golden South Sea pearls are authentic (and their color is natural) because we buy either direct from the pearl farmer or from the most-respected wholesalers of South Sea pearls - wholesalers who open their operations to the experts and who verify the quality and origin of their pearls.

Cultured Pearls and "Natural" Pearls

We sell cultured Tahitian pearls, South Sea pearls, Akoya pearls, and freshwater pearls. Cultured pearls are real pearls, they are grown in oysters that live in South Pacific waters of pearl farms and tended by pearl farmers, rather than growing on their own in the ocean/lagoons. Cultured pearls should not be confused with "shell pearls" which are made from oyster shells cut into spheres and coated to look like a pearl. Cultured pearls are made by an oyster as a result of the pearl farmer inserting a small "nucleus" or bead into the oyster. A pearl is made when the oyster forms the pearl nacre around the nucleus - this ensures that every healthy oyster makes a pearl, as opposed to waiting for a foreign parasite or particle to enter the oyster and make a pearl. It is actually extremely important for the health of our lagoons and oceans to buy only cultured pearls. This is because when people search the lagoons for natural pearls, they kill thousands of oysters before finding one oyster containing a pearl. This is very dangerous for the ecosystem; and this is why the government of Tahiti made it illegal to take un-farmed (not cultured) Tahitian pearls from the lagoons.
